Books, Books and more Books: They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

Hey everyone!

This week we will be reviewing a young adult novel by Adam Silvera, called They Both Die at the End.

Blurb

On September 5th, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: they're going to die today. Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but, for different reasons, they're both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: there's an app for that. It's called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure - to live a lifetime in a single day.

Review

This book was definitely a teary and emotional read. Imagine being sent a text message saying you are going to die today. It made me think: how would I even begin to spend my last couple of hours?

I really liked the back-and-forth perspective between Mateo and Rufus throughout the book. One moment I was listening to Mateo's story and the next I was listening to Rufus's. But the more I read, the more the tension was growing. It was like a time bomb; at any moment, they would both just disappear. On that note, the front cover of a time glass was a perfect representation of both boys and how little time they had left.

What was even more interesting was the romance that evolved between both characters. In such a short space of time, they grew considerably close to each other, because they both realised they were about to experience the same thing.

The Last Friend app the characters in the novel downloaded was very similar to a dating app. But in this case, for those who had little time left to live. Both Mateo and Rufus downloaded it after receiving their death warning messages. They then match and aim to spend their final hours in New York City.

They Both Die at the End is a great read for those interested in young-adult fiction. It is a great read full of emotional moments. But it is also comforting.
