Hello, my name is Luke Patrick, and welcome back to my series on the biggest upcoming games of 2026. This week’s instalment will focus on GTA 6.
After years of waiting, speculation, and multiple delays, it looks like GTA 5’s long-awaited sequel may finally drop this year, and the gaming community can’t wait.
GTA 6 is set to release on November 19th 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but unfortunately, a PC version will not be available on launch day.
The game is developed by Rockstar Games, which has been creating the GTA franchise for decades. They say that the GTA 6 map is going to be the biggest and most impressive evolution in the franchise’s history.
GTA 6 will be taking players all the way back to Vice City for the next instalment in the franchise. Players last explored the streets of Vice City all the way back in 2006 with GTA: Vice City Stories, and previously in 2002 with GTA: Vice City. While the game is returning to the same location as those older games, it will look very different. With new ray tracing to create striking lighting and parallax mapping to create the most realistic cityscape GTA has ever seen.
Players will be able to experience countless locations with the amazing next-generation graphics, and Vice City will look better than ever.
It is estimated that the map for GTA 6 will be almost twice the size of the GTA map, so there will be countless locations for players to explore upon launch.
Including Leonida Keys, cruise ships, seas and beaches, Port Gellhorn, Mount Kalaga National Park, and a potential second state, Gloriana. Players can also experience fully explorable malls, fast-food joints, and other landmarks, including an airport, a football pitch, and an amphitheatre.
Plenty of locations for the usual GTA madness to unfold.
GTA will also introduce players to a brand new protagonist, moving on from the beloved Trevor, Michael, and Franklin. The main character of GTA 6 will be Jason Duval, an ex-military man who grew up in a rough area and found himself working for local drug runners after leaving the army. The second protagonist for the GTA 6 story is Lucia Caminos, a previous convict who is laser-focused on getting to the good life at any cost. Players will follow them as they uncover a dark criminal conspiracy that stretches across the state of Leonida after an easy score takes an unexpected turn.
Players will encounter a whole roster of new characters besides Jason and Lucia, including Cal Hampton, a good friend of Jason’s, Boobie Ike, a local Vice City Legend, multiple business owners, including real estate, a strip club and a recording studio and Dre’Quan Priest, who is a musician.
While Jason and Lucia may be in danger, they will be armed and dangerous themselves, as players will be able to unlock and buy a wide range of different weapons throughout their single-player or online game.
These include handguns, rifles, explosives, melee weapons and many more. Players will also be able to get their hands on other equipment, including binoculars, body armour, flashlights, trauma kits and much more.
Jason and Lucia can utilise new tactics and mechanics during their criminal activities, including tying up civilians with zip ties and using hostages as human shields.
There will be a redesigned weapons wheel that lets players switch between weapons, gear, and equipment using R1/RB on the controller. Most of this equipment can be found at the returning Ammu-Nation stores around the map. All this violence and action could get players the new 6-star wanted level.
As in the previous instalment of the GTA franchise, characters will have distinct abilities. Jason’s ability slows down time and highlights enemy weak points, and Lucia’s ability is also slow motion but focuses on a single shot.
Of course, no GTA game is complete without a collection of super-fast and expensive cars for you to ride around in, and GTA 6 is promising a wide range of vehicles and in-depth car customisations. As well as more detailed car interiors for players to enjoy with friends.
Players have already had a sneak peek at a number of the vehicles in GTA 6, including cars, motorcycles, helicopters, planes, and boats in the trailers for the game.
GTA 6 will be available to pre-order on Xbox and PlayStation on the 25th June 2026.Heading
